P 365 Sept 13-19

The school finally got to giving out the plaques for the 2nd semester of last year. Michael is planning to get a whole collection of these.

Tuesday was our Scout sign up. The Girl Scouts were on one side of the hallway, and the Cub Scouts were on the other side of the room. Our Girl Scouts had about a 90% re-registration last spring, so we didn't get very many girls signing up, but the Cub Scouts had a line going around the corner.
I burned my hand at work about a week and a half ago. It is healing slowly but surely. The scabby area is where it was blistered and hurt the worst. Gorgeous picture--I know. :-)

Thursday night was our first Pack Meeting of the year. Daniel is now a Bear Scout.

I had to knock out one of my other pictures this week to showcase this bit of family drama. I earlier have posted pictures of my mountain ash tree that the birds have slowly been killing. Richard decided it was time for it to come down. When we came home from the parade, (next picture) the branches were all cut off, and Sarah burst into tears. It was her favorite climbing tree. She spent time saying goodbye to the tree before Richard knocked it down with the tractor.

Saturday was the Amery Fall Festival Parade. This is the Clear Lake Band. It was definately fall, with the temperature hovering right around 48 degrees. Luckily, it was sunny.

The temps weren't much warmer on Sunday, and I decided it was time to pull out the boots and tights to wear to church to try to stay warm.

p 365 May 3-9

On Monday, Alisha & Emily had their annual FCCLA end of year Banquet. Alisha recieved a plaque for being a member for 6 years. (for older folks, you may remember FCCLA in high school as FHA (future homemakers of America) it changed in 1999 to FCCLA(Future Career & Community Leaders of America)).
We had kind of some wild weather this week. For several afternoons, it would rain, stop, rain, stop, and with all that some really cool clouds rolled through. This group was right at sunset.

Really not the most flattering picture of me, but that's what I get for having someone else take the picture. :-) The 4th grade had their annual 'Festival of Nations.' The kids are supposed to research a country that their ancestors were from, make a report, and then display it, visual aids and a food item at the festival. All my kids have done a different country since we are such Mutts. Alisha did Sweden; Emily, Norway; Michael, Ireland, and Sarah did England. Daniel still has quite a selection of countries to pick from when it is his turn. We made a Trifle that was very well recieved.
Another picture of storm clouds.
The flowering trees are in full splendor right now (actually, this is just past their prime-the pink crabapple trees were spectacular-now they are just pretty). So, here is a crabapple next to a popcorn tree. :-) No, they are not in my yard. Click on the picture to make it larger, to see the blue bottle tree in the bottom right corner of the picture.

Yes, this is what it looks like. On the evening of May 7-the morning of May 8, we got this. Snow. We haven't had snow since February!! At least it wasn't much, and it melted as soon as the sun came out.

We got a new car! O.K., it has 130,000 miles on it, but the price was right. Dave wanted to give it to us, but he had just recently had some new parts put in it, so we paid him for that, and we now have a 3rd car. Runs a little rough, but Richard is better with rough running cars than Dave is, so we now have a vehicle. YAY!!

Happy Mothers' Day to my mother and all my sisters, sisters-in-law, and all my other mother friends!

new pics! :-)

I've kept up with this for 6 days now. Woo Hoo! So, here are the latest installments:
Sunday we woke up to -18 degrees. I don't care who you are, that is cold. Snot freezing cold. We are averaging about -10 at night. That calls for a lot of wood in the fireplace. We shove it in there day and night. We have a wood pellet stove that works to about 20 degrees at keeping the house warm. Below 20, and we have to supplement with wood. Especially to heat the upstairs. There are electric baseboard heaters upstairs, but they are expensive, so we don't use them. So, Richard & boys cut trees (gotta love having your own woods) and chop wood and haul wood so that we can have heat. Heat is a good thing.

Monday (1/4) the kids went back to school and I drove to New Richmond to do some shopping. I've passed this tree many times and was always struck by its starkness in the middle of the field by itself.
This is my amaryllis that I have been growing since Thanksgiving. It has 4 gorgeous blooms on it, and a 5th bud as well. Very cool looking!

Have a great day!!

Project 365 2010

It has really been 6 months since I last wrote??? Well, hopefully this is about to change. I have taken on a new goal for the year. It is called Project 365 and it involves taking a picture every day of the year and then posting it. I may not post every day, but the pictures will be eventually up--even if it means having to upload several at a time.

I'm hoping this project will be a good and unique way to journal about the year, and to help improve my photo taking skills.

So, here we go~~!

I'll start with New Year's Eve: It was a Blue Moon, fantastically huge and looked very cool shining through the icicles on the house.

New Year's Day: I had to work during the day, but at night, we turned all electronic entertainment off and had a grand time playing Apples to Apples.

today we dismantled the Christmas tree. It always looks so sad!!

Well, that's the start of P365 2010. Hope it will be a fun journey.
